Paper Towel Box
In my sketching pages of development, I took inspiration from a tissue box. As the tissues mainly come in a box, what if we gave the same design opportunity to paper towel rolls.
In my garage I have quite a lot of scrap and un-used objects lying around, as I looked around, I found a couple of Shoe boxes lying in the corner and I wondered, "What can I do to modify and make a shoe box useful."
Upon further exploring my garage, I found a wooden stick, and thought about how I can combine the two objects with another to make something. I saw a tissue box and though I could try and make a tissue box out of a shoebox, I then thought about what if I went larger with the idea of a tissue box and ended up with a Paper Towel Box.
Photo 1: First find a shoe box, a wooden stick, and a paper towel roll.
Photo 2: On both sides of the shoe box, you want to cut a hole for the wooden
stick to be inserted in to hold the paper towel roll.
Photo 3: On the lid of the shoe box, measure the length of the paper towel roll, then using a knife cut a long rectangular shape allowing the paper towel to be pulled from.
Photo 4: The wooden stick should sit inside the hole when you insert it.
Photo 5: Place the paper towel roll in the shoe box and push the wooden stick through the paper towel roll, the end of the stick should go through the other hole allowing the paper towel roll to be held up, allowing it to rotate with ease.
End Result: Close the lid while slipping the paper towel through the cut out rectangular shape, and you have a paper towel box.

How successful was my Design?
My design was quite successful, as I managed to modify a shoebox into a paper towel box using 3 objects (Shoebox, paper towel roll and a wooden stick). I definitely think this design has a lot of room for improvement, and can be further modified. As a paper towel is usually hung on the wall with a metal bar, this idea of a paper towel box is good, but one flaw is the amount of space it will take up in the kitchen. Upon further modifications, I can explore further ways to make the object more... compact.
Overall, it is a simplistic and good start.
